Hello everyone! Today I will recommend you two more shows that will help you to improve your English. No more excuses! I would also like to give you a couple of tips that might help you when watching TV shows in original version:
- Don’t be scared to rewind and pause the shows. This can be annoying at first, but once you get used to the language you will be able to follow the show much more easily.
- Keep a notebook next to you for any new expression you hear and you’ll see that your vocabulary will improve REALLY fast.
- Remember, you don’t need to understand it all, just try to get the big picture!
Game of Thrones [level: advanced]
Just three words: BEST SHOW EVER. It is a must-see, trust me. It is great for anyone that likes action, passion, fantasy, history and great plot twists. The story takes places in the invented land of Westeros in a medieval-like time, where seven powerful families fight for this mythical land.
The language is really beautiful in my opinion, but it might be a little difficult for beginners, as they use a really formal register with which you may not be familiar. You can think about it as a challenge! You will learn a lot of vocabulary related to war, royalty and the Middle Age as knight, sword, dragon, realm or lord.
Suits [level: upper intermediate]
Suits is a show about one of the best lawyers in New York City, Harvey Specter, and his associate, Mike Ross, who has an amazing talent (he can remember absolutely everything that he has read in his entire life) but keeps a big secret: he has never actually attended law school. The show focuses on how both of them manage to close cases while maintaining Mike’s secret.
It is funny, witty and it always keeps you guessing. I would especially recommend this show for those who practice law (lawyers, judges, etc.) or business, as they can really benefit a lot from learning about law vocabulary.
